Any advice? Hopefully it’ll turn out OK, and hopefully it will get done by the end of summer.

Where are you getting this brick from? I have been looking for some affordable brick to do something similar and everything I am looking at is extremely expensive. Heck, I would rather pour concrete and would probably cost me just as much.
It’s $0.66 each at Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse, which is conveniently/dangerously close to our house. It’ll be about $200 for enough brick to finish this project.
I’m thinking of digging out a bigger area, though, so that may change.
Sweet! Once you get the patio done, you can “pull” your weeds with a propane blowtorch. I’ve always wanted a reason to buy one of those.
I’ll post a new pic some time, but the hole is much bigger today. MUCH bigger. I expanded it toward the house, and it’s about 60% done.
