That’s not fair…I’m a life-long CoC’er…my NT includes much more: Rom 10:17, Mk 16:16, Lk 13:3, Rom 10:10, (insert Acts 2:38 here), Acts 20:7, 1 Cor 16:2, Eph 5:19. BTW, what’s an “Old Testament”? Don’t know if we believe in that.
I agree with David. I was raised with the entire book of Acts, Mark 16:16, a few quotes from Romans (3:23; 6:23), one from Galatians (3:27, but NOT 3:28), James 3:24, and Revelation 22:18-19. But the OT was unnecessary. I didn’t read that until Bible college.
Good stuff.
Testaments? We don’t need no stinkin’ “Testaments”!
Just a good ol’ fashioned “Baptist Faith and Message” handbook along with Robert’s Rule of Order for business meetings and the folder that contains all of grandma’s old recipes for the potlucks. Everything you ever needed to be a good christian. (grins)
Yes, yes, I know.
I left in the OT for context and limited the NT to Acts 2:38 for simplicity. But you get the point.
neal w., am I missing something? James 3 only has 18 verses…
That can’t be the CoC Bible because it is the dreaded NIV.
amazing work aaron. i remember in my early days at Harding when we would chant “Acts 2:38″ when the basketball team played Ouchita Baptist. classick…
for those of you w/o a CoC background who don’t get the gag; it’s a reference to our particular brand of proof-texting.
as for all those aforementioned verses, I prefer not to think of them as “proof texts” but rather as “sacred selections” (a la 728b).
you’ll either get my reference or not.
next comment please.
Bridget,
Sorry, I’m illiterate in both the biblical and classical sense. I meant James 2:24…hit the wrong key
And this is something that most denominations ignore…including Mark 16:16 (even though Christ said it). Oh, well…and the church of Christ is NOT a denomination, either.
You’ve got to take Amos off the list at least. . .
