I also like this quote:

More and more I feel that the people of ill will have used time much more effectively than have the people of good will. We will have to repent in this generation not merely for the hateful words and actions of the bad people but for the appalling silence of the good people. Human progress never rolls in on wheels of inevitability; it comes through the tireless efforts of men willing to be co-workers with God, and without this 'hard work, time itself becomes an ally of the forces of social stagnation. We must use time creatively, in the knowledge that the time is always ripe to do right.

We don't have very many (if any) preachers as good as Dr. King today. Julie gets the prize. But we can all learn from Dr. King's message. The full text of the speech can be found here. RealAudio of King reading the letter can be found here.

Hmm, it does sound familiar. My first guess was either Searching for God Knows What by Donald Miller or Praise Habit by David Crowder, but Letter From a Birmingham Jail sounds very plausable too.

Julie has hit the nail on the head. The man with more streets and bridges named after him than perhaps any person on earth penned, or spoke these words. Thanks for sharing this.

Without Googling it I can't be sure (well, I could crawl under my dusty bed and dig up my copy of Why We Can't Wait but that is such a low tech way of doing things - and would involve a lot of sneezing and probably cleaning - and we don't need that!

The writer, I believe, is Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (and it's from Summer of our Discontent or Letter from a Birmingham Jail).
