Last Sunday marked a new chapter for Andrea and me; we left our life in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania behind and began a new adventure. I was (and am) incredibly excited as well as frightened. But I’m convinced moving to Seattle is the right thing to do.
Our church hosted a going away party for us Sunday night after church. It was a very special time. Lots of hugs, tears, and “see you laters”. I’ll miss so many people there including the Gaskins, Hulls, Crowdens, Nicks, Williams, Dan, and many others. I can say with utmost assurance that I am a better man because of these people.
I also find it amazing that, despite my most meticulous planning, that God’s plans are better than mine.
I originally planned to move to Seattle directly following my college graduation. But no jobs developed and I somehow ended up in central Pennsylvania. But I learned so many things and met so many wonderful people there. During my time several things happened to me:
- Time passed. The economy has improved. Companies are hiring. I graduated just after 9/11 if that tells you anything
- I got work experience. A necessity in a competitive work environment.
- I got to know my wife’s parents much better living with them for the first four months of our marriage and living the next two and a half years less than two hours away. A blessing.
- I got out of debt. I can almost afford to live in Seattle now.
- I found what seems to be the ideal job (for me). It was actually the first job I interviewed for in Seattle. The company is small, the hierarchies are flat, business is good, the technology is diverse and interesting, the office is in historic downtown (a block from the waterfront and close to tons of cool restaurants and such), and there are coworkers my age. Wahoo!
- The Baeder’s bought a big house. They have space and a big mortgage. We are in need of space and have money to help pay said mortgage. So Andrea and I will be crashing the place until further notice. Essentially, we’ll be fighting materialism through community. Expect to see more on this from Justin and me in the future.
- I became less cynical about my COC heritage. I’m able to see both the good and the bad and use that for the glory of God.
- I got to see and work with some truly Godly elders. Not CEOs. Not rulers. Not power-mongers. Servants. I hope to be like them someday.
- I got to meet some really, really awesome people I never would have met before. Thank you all so much for your friendship and love. Let’s continue it!
- And finally, and most importanly to my wife, I met a baby that I absolutely adore. I now don’t find them quite so petrifying.

We’ve spent the week in Delaware visiting with Andrea’s family. It’s been totally great. Tomorrow we leave for Ohio to spend a week with my parents and high school friends. Then we make for Seattle via Nashville, Arkansas, Kansas, Denver, and Yellowstone National Park. I hope to keep a travelogue if wifi permits. Keep us in your prayers as we travel over the next two week.
Grace and peace.

What? You guys are living with us? Nobody asked me.
This is cool! It’s been great to follow some of this ever since u joined the blog.
God be with you.
safe travels . . . enjoy yellowstone too!!
Today is an appropriately dreary day in Delaware - dark, cloudy and rainy - for the day Andrea and Aaron begin their journey that will take them to Seattle. To say we will miss being able to see them whenever we all feel like it would be an enormous understatement. Even knowing God will use them in an incredible way there does not ease the pain much. But I wrote about a biblical couple, Priscilla and Aquila, that must have frequently left loved ones behind as they travelled across the Roman world to serve the Gospel, trusting God to use them as He chose. People like Andrea and Aaron are today’s Priscillas and Aquilas, and our world certainly needs them! Our temporary loss will be Seattle’s eternal gain!

Hey,
You always have a place in Pittsburgh when you come back this way. May the Father blees you as you seek Him.
Peace
Geo & Bon
And when did you guys have a baby?!
OK, I’m confused. Wednesday Justin posted ‘Aaron is here‘ (by ‘here’ I assumed that meant Seattle) and now Aaron say’s he’s in Delaware. Huh?
Doug,
I flew out to Seattle and back to upack my things that were shipped last week. Andrea and I now only have to drive our car out instead of all of our earthly possessions.
All,
Thank you for your kindness. It feels so good to be missed and anticipated. Thank you.
Grace and peace.
Ahhhhh …… And I thought you were just trying to confuse me.
Have a safe trip.
Guys,
I see you are making your way across the country. Already
miss you! Dan and I will meet you in Ohio for our
roller-coaster ride sometime in the future.
I’m through with school for the summer!! YAHOOOOO!
Creation Festival ‘05 here I come. Looks like I can
go to Creation West now that I have friends out there!
Love you guys DarrenC
Congrats in lots of ways. Glad to hear you made it to Seattle. Also congrats on the baby. Hope you enjoyed you time in PA, it has much to offer. Half my family is still there, and the majority of my church family is also still in PA. Did you get to work at Camp while there? Either way, hope you have a safe trip to Seatlle keep up the good work I know you are doing. Best of luck to you, your family, and the Baeders.
Darren- come visit anytime.
Miss you too, bro.
Jacoby- thanks man! Yeah, PA was cool but it was our time to move on. AND that’s not my baby. She’s just a friend.
Sorry about that mix up. A lot to read here and I tend to miss a lot of words on the internet. Thanks to Greg’s site, I found yours. Glad you enjoyed PA. We, my wife and I are considering a move in the near future for graduate school. Anxious to get out of the valley. Enjoy Seattle and spread the word. Ill be sure to follow the site. My wife has been dying to see seattle, so maybe after you all settle in for a few months we’ll make the trip out and visit the church.
