Good Podcasts

I have enjoyed listening to Alan Hartung’s podcast A Different Perspective (feed), and right now, having plowed through all of Alan’s releases to date, I’m working through the Wired Jesus podcast from Tom Lyberg (feed).

I see that Tim Bednar (feed) has also taken on the podcasting challenge, though I haven’t had a chance to listen in.

There is a huge listing of “religious/inspirational” podcasts over at PodcastAlley, though it’s a broad category. It’s amazing/cool how many Catholic podcasts there are, what with Catholics not having the tech/edgy vibe according to public perception.

The original (and very popular) podcast is Adam Curry’s Daily Source Code (feed), which he records in his car while commuting. I’ve listened to it, but haven’t been keeping up. Do you like it?

What podcasts do you enjoy?

One more thing - you don’t have to have an iPod, or even an MP3 player, to listen to podcasts. You just need a computer and a free mp3 player like WinAmp. You can automate the listening process a lot more easily if you have an iPod and use an app like iPodder, but they’re not necessary. After all, a podcast is just an audio file. If you use an RSS reader like Bloglines, you can subscribe to the feeds normally and just download the mp3s manually.

Justin, that’s a good question. Thanks for asking. I too want to know what podcasts you guys regularly listen to.

Only one out of every 50 you preview is worth listening to repeatedly. It’s a frustrating search. I have found two, though, that keep me entertained on my 15-minute walk from commuter parking to my office (and even on the ride to school itself):

1) James Lileks has begun to put one on recently, called The Diner. It averages a half hour and features some of his favorite music finds from the America of yesteryear. The rest of his blog (and the regular site to which it’s attached) is also full of hilarious stuff. If you haven’t seen it yet, take an hour and poke around (it might take you that long to find the link to The Diner, but this link will get you close): http://www.lileks.com/bleats/

2) Mr. Nice Guy is a guy I found through ipodder.org. I’ve only listened to a couple of his shows so far, but they all seem to be a very portable 5-7 minutes long. He talks in a funny voice and ponders silly celebrity decisions and advertising missteps. So far i’m enjoying it: http://www.mrniceguy.org/

So, what do you listen to? Let’s make a list of the good.
