The Bible is very easy to understand. But we Christians are a bunch of scheming swindlers. We pretend to be unable to understand it because we know very well that the minute we understand we are obliged to act accordingly. —Soren Kierkegaard

What is radical congruency?
The idea is simple: pursuing alignment between God’s revealed will and our lives. It’s obvious that this was the intent behind all the ethical teaching in the Bible - God has said what He has said for a reason: He wants us to do it.

It may seem odd to devote a whole web site to the idea of following God’s will, but it seems to me that we have had a great deal of difficulty with the idea in the 2,000-year history of Christian discipleship. Human weaknesses, collected into traditions and consolidated into self-perpetuating structures, have resulted in a church that knows how to keep doing what it’s doing, but has a hard time doing what God said it should be doing.

Here’s why it’s radical to pursue congruency with what God actually said: so few people are doing it. We may pursue what our Christian circles tell us are important, for example, studying the Bible. But it’s all too easy for studying the Bible to become more important than living by it. I come from this type of background; your experience may point to many other examples.

Purpose
The purpose of this site is to promote serious Christian discipleship, which I refer to variously as following Jesus, serving God, pursuing radical congruency, etc. I realize this site may be read by non-Christians, so I should say that many of the essays and discussions here may require some background information. If you have any questions about this, please email me at Justin at BaederResources.com or join the discussion.

I accidentally ran across your website on sort-of radical Christianity? Fascinating, all the thoughts and questions that people are batting around. But…this is trying to re-invent the wheel, it is the so-called ‘Western mind’ in action trying to discover the Source, it’s own mind or Personhood and thus God who is revealed as Person, through Reason. The Western 13th c. scholasticism of Roman (and therefore Protestant) Christian experience. BAck to the roots is a good starting place to begin sorting out the mess that is Western spirituality. A priest once said to me “Western society is Christianity gone crazy”. Look into Eastern Orthodox Christian theology and history to find out the big picture; what happened; and what can make it ‘right’given the will. Remember Greek Orthodoxy? Russian Orthodox? Ethiopian Orthodox? These are clues as to the origins of Christianity. Please. Go for it. see ya, love in Christ, Daniel
